Welcome to Rayink Ltd the makers of the uCosy™  Weathershield and the uClamp™  multi-purpose clamping device.

‘My initial interest was in the nursery industry when I had my first child, and took a stroll with her in the rain for the first time. I am not embarrassed to say that the company’s first innovation the ‘uCosy’ came directly from the laziness and frustration born out of that first experience. Whilst out with my child, she sheltered ‘nice and cosy’ underneath her transparent buggy-raincover, I was having to push her with one hand, hold my umbrella with the other (shopping on the handle-bars) and somehow still manage to steer the vehicle. Sounds familiar?  There are some buggies with wheel designs that could further add to this problem.

From the uCosy ™ came the uClamp ™ (with or without it’s extension pole).

Rayink was launched in 2001, and has always maintained a passion and commitment to finding solutions to the many unspoken and frustrating problems, which occur in our daily lives. Our raincovers and clamping devices have a mulititude of applications spanning industries such as golfing, nursery, angling, disability, and DIY.

We hope that you will find our products exciting, solution-based and intriguing.

uCosy™ Design and Product Development

Initial product development began in early 2000 on a pragmatic solution to how to improve the process of pushing a stroller/buggy in the rain, whilst having to hold an umbrella at the same time. Only those who have had to undergo this multi-tasking exercise on a regular basis, will truly appreciate just how frustrating the experience can be. And although there has been much advance in the technological construction and designs of prams and strollers, generally they are still heavier than their previous generation, only adding to the plight of the pusher in the circumstances for which the uCosy was designed.

So the uCosy was created with the parent and caregiver, as the focus subject. A device, which outside of its main purpose, would boast the   added benefit of encouraging a sense of ‘freedom and confidence’. The confidence of knowing that one has the freedom to undertake outdoor activities with a stroller, irrespective of the weather.

In today’s society, the importance of health and fitness has reasserted itself. Health experts are advising us to walk short distances, rather than drive them, particularly the school/nursery run. With attitudes changing, the uCosy will fix its position as a contemporary and essential accessory for prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Critical issues were identified that demanded the product be collapsible, removable and adjustable, and the development of solutions would require significant engineering and technical understanding.

The uClamp™ was the first of the solutions to be developed; by coupling a ratchet device with two clamps and relying on differential tension levels, the inventors were able to develop a two wheel clamp that could control three points of contact, the two clamps as well as the rotational control.

By developing and adapting the design concept of the uClamp™, the critical aspect of collapsibility was overcome with regard to the weather shield itself. The modified uClamp™ relies on compression locking to control the opening and closing of the uCosy™ hood allowing the whole product to be folded and stored quickly and simply.

Full adjustability for the product was only possible after the development of the Utwist™ lock for the telescopic struts. This innovative patent-pending device controls the locking of the small and large telescopic poles in their extended or retracted position. Taking over a year to develop, the system relies on the compression of a rubber actuator within a confined space to achieve traction in excess of that required to restrain the poles.

Quality Assurance

Rigorous product testing and materials assessment has been key to the development and engineering of the components of the uCLAMP and the uCosy™. In support of this company-wide philosophy in the use of the best resource for the role, Rayink Ltd. has sought the services of a leading, global, independent testing body.

Société Générale de Surveillance (www.sgs.com) has conducted assessment against the requirements of the General Product Safety Directive (E.C.), for both the uCosy™, and the uCLAMP.

These assessments, conducted in 2003, were for both mechanical and physical safety. In the assessments of both the uCosy™ and the uCLAMP, it was ‘the opinion of the SGS (testing laboratory) that the sample does not present any reasonable or foreseeable hazards other than those commensurate with the normal operation of the item.
