The uClamp and extension pole is basically,an innovative clamping device with a height adjuster. Designed to have an umbrella attached to it, the concept focuses on having an umbrella attached to the uClamp, which in turn is fixed to either the frame of the arm or back section of a wheelchair or mobility vehicle, so that there will be no need for the person controlling the use of the vehicle, to hold it themselves. In the case of the wheelchair user, and the driver of a mobility vehicle, an umbrella can be attached to their vehicle that does not require them to hold it, leaving their hands ‘free’ to either steer (wheelchair) or drive (mobility) their vehicle. In the case of the wheelchair ‘pusher’ it is actually possible to gain shelter from the rain as well, by using both the uCosy and uClamp with the extension pole together. ‘You can be as imaginative as you want’. The uCosy Weathershield can be used for the occupant of the wheelchair, and the uClamp and extension pole for the pusher of the wheelchair….or vice versa.

                                      The uClamp and extension pole with an umbrella attached can also be used as an effective ‘sunshade’.

How Does It Work

Each uClamp set comprises two clamps that work independently of each other. Both clamps are held together by spindle and two tightening knobs, one at each end. Each tightening knob controls the ‘clamping’ pressure of the clamp nearest to it. The uClamp will allow two completely different sized/shaped poles (or the frame of your wheelchair/mobility vehicle) to be attached to each other at whatever angle one chooses, around a 360 arc. The extension pole has ‘two sets’ of uClamps attached to it at either end. The extension pole is attached to the handle-bar section or the frame that supports the arm-rest. An umbrella (its size is the choice of the user) is fixed to the uClamp at the other end of the pole. Both uClamps allow 360 degree rotation. Rotate pole with bottom uClamp until vertical position is found, then rotate umbrella with top uClamp for fine positioning. Tighten both uClamps to maintain position. Height adjustments can be made by repositioning either one or both uClamps along the length of the extension pole. When not in use, simply fold down umbrella, and adjust pole with the use of both uClamps in a way that allows umbrella to be positioned comfortably to the side of the vehicle.
